As a regional medical hub serving urban and surrounding communities, the establishment of large new or expanded hospital campuses is a common strategy among municipal hospitals. However, such facilities often face operational challenges due to their extensive departments, multi-floor layouts, and high volume of material flows. Traditional manual or fragmented logistics methods are inefficient, error-prone, and consume valuable clinical time, negatively impacting both operational efficiency and patient experience.

To support smart hospital development and enhance management precision, standardization, and efficiency, building an intelligent, safe, and streamlined in-hospital logistics system has become essential. It serves as critical infrastructure for improving operational performance, ensuring medical safety, and elevating the experience of both staff and patients.

Project Background

Founded in 1951, Shangrao City Municipal Hospital is a Class A Grade III comprehensive facility integrating medical care, prevention, teaching, and research. To meet growing healthcare demands and upgrade regional medical capacity, the hospital initiated the Sanjiang General Hospital project—a key public welfare initiative aimed at enhancing urban functionality and healthcare service quality.

The new campus is designed as a modern tertiary general hospital offering medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, prevention, rehabilitation, and healthcare services. However, its large scale, complex layout, and high expected patient volume meant that conventional logistics would struggle to handle the daily flow of medications, infusions, medical supplies, lab samples, and operational goods.

A smart and efficient logistics solution was urgently needed to ensure accurate, secure, and timely delivery of materials across departments—a crucial factor in maintaining clinical efficiency and patient satisfaction.

Planning and Design

Located in Xinzhou District, Shangrao City, the Sanjiang General Hospital covers a total area of 39,593.2 m² with a construction area of 130,897.5 m². The facility is equipped with 800 patient beds.

The design prioritizes functional efficiency, rational zoning, and streamlined circulation. The architectural style is modern and cohesive, forming a new public landmark in the city. The layout supports smooth and ordered movement between departments while integrating harmoniously with the surrounding green spaces and water systems.

To address high-volume logistics needs, the hospital conducted thorough research and selected Esseniot’s advanced vertical conveyor system to serve as the backbone of its internal material transport network.

The system connects key functional areas including nursing stations, delivery rooms, inpatient pharmacies, blood transfusion departments, emergency rooms, and clinical laboratories. Through efficient vertical lifting and horizontal conveying mechanisms, it enables fast and secure transport of over 95% of hospital supplies, significantly reducing staff workload and ensuring reliable operation of the hospital’s logistical lifeline.

Key advantages of Esseniot Vertical Conveyor System:

1. Smart Interaction:The 5th-generation sending/receiving stations support manual, voice, and HIS dispatch modes. Features such as task recall, destination modification, priority sending, station confirmation, and container tracking make operations smarter and safer for medical staff.

2. High Efficiency:With high-speed vertical sorting capabilities, the system can transport 4–12 containers per trip. Optional continuous loop elevators support throughput of up to 1,200 containers per hour, greatly enhancing transport capacity.
